Helfer was raised in the rural area of Donalda, Alberta, Canada in Canada, the children of Dennis Helfer and Elaine Helfer. The two were born in Donalda, Alberta, Canada. Parents are Elaine and Dennis Helfer. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School situated in Stettler. She worked and lived on the family's farm along with her three sisters, Trena, Tammy and Tara. At age 17, a modeling scout from an agency discovered Helfer when he was waiting in line to enter a cinema.
